The Iowa Online Nurse Residency Program is blazing a new trail in the world of transition to practice. What originated 10 years ago in response to the Institute of Medicine’s Future of Nursing report, the program has evolved into a robust and innovative program that advances nursing research and provides ongoing education for recent graduate nurses.
Current Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) student Emily Ward, BSN, RN, MBA, was recently named the 2020 recipient of the Iowa Organization for Nursing Leadership (IONL) scholarship.
Ward, associate chief nurse executive at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, will utilize the funding from the IONL scholarship to invest in her DNP education.
Barbara Rakel was recently awarded the Dr. Rita and David Frantz Professorship in Nursing!
This endowed professorship is awarded to a tenure track associate or full professor with a distinguished program of research that is focused on improving symptom management and care delivery with evidence of interprofessional collaborations to advance team science. The honoree must also have a distinguished record of external research funding.

The American Academy of Nursing officially designated five prominent nurse leaders as Living Legends—the Academy's highest honor. Among the five honorees is UI College of Nursing Professor Emeritus Kathleen (Kitty) Buckwalter.
