CE Information:
University of Iowa College of Nursing is IBON provider number 1. For full time attendance, 4.5 contact hours will be awarded.

Purpose: Those with mental health disorders interact with nurses throughout the health care system.  Developing rapport with these individuals is necessary for best outcomes but can be challenging at times.  As nurses it is integral to care we provide that we understand the perspective of the people that we care for.  This program will offer attendees the insight on how it is to live with and function with mental health disorders.  Attendees will gain this insight and knowledge from the panel of expert speakers who have relevant evidenced based strategies and personal stories to relate to nurses current and future practice.


  • Introduce health care staff to the emotional stages people affected by mental illness experience on the way to recovery.
  • Help staff gain a fresh understanding of and empathy for their patients’ lived experience, especially during treatment.
  • Promote collaboration between clients, families and providers to achieve the best level of recovery possible.
