Rakel Earns Research Award from MPS

Professor Barb Rakel, PhD, RN, FAAN, was recently bestowed with the Research Excellence Award from the Midwest Pain Society (MPS), a regional affiliate of the American Pain Society.

Recognizing her for outstanding contributions to the field of pain research, Dr. Rakel was presented with the award during the 39th MPS Scientific Meeting, which was held Oct. 16-17 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

Iowa Outreach: NPs Bring Primary Care to Rural Henry County

About 10 years ago, Professor Tess Judge-Ellis, DNP, ARNP, FAANP, was looking to lend her care provider expertise to a family practice facility in rural Iowa. As it turns out, Sylvia Graber, a UI College of Nursing family nurse practitioner (FNP) grad and a former student of Judge-Ellis, was working at a small clinic in Henry County that was in need of another practitioner.

And the rest, as they say, is history.
