The University of Iowa College of Nursing is celebrating 12 decades – 120 years – of nursing excellence, and we invite you to join us!


Thursday, October 11
All-classes dinner. Those who graduated in 1963, 1967, 1968, and 1988 will be seated with their graduating classes specifically.

Friday, October 12
Seminars – Hotel Vetro

8:45-9:15am – State of the College of Nursing – Dean Julie Zerwic 

9:15-9:45am – State of the Department of Nursing at UIHC – Chief Nursing Executive Cindy Dawson

10-10:15am – Coffee/Tea Break

10:15am – State of genomics and its impact on the profession of nursing – Professor Janet Williams and Associate Professor Sandra Daack-Hirsch

11am – A changing population of clients and health care professionals in the future (Dual Modalities) – Associate Professor Tess Judge-Ellis & Assistant Professor Dan Wesemann

11:45am – Lunch

1-1:45pm – State of technology and its impact on education – Director of Simulation & Interprofessional Education April Prunty

1:45-2:30pm – Diversity and its impact on the profession – Diversity Coordinator Val Garr and Nurse Manager Trudy Laffoon

2:30-2:45pm – Break

2:45-3:30pm – Breakout Sessions

#1: Overview of Nursing Programs with Faculty
A panel of faculty members, led by Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs Anita Nicholson, will present a College of Nursing overview and answer questions.

#2: Building and Remodeling Updates
Executive Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Anita Stineman will lead a session discussing the major renovations happening at the College of Nursing Building, and what those renovations mean for our students.

3:30pm – Wrap-up and directions for Friday evening and Saturday’s activities

All-Class Opening Reception – Hancher (Stanley Café)

7-8pm – Rufus Reed performance at Hancher

*Tour will begin and end on the west side of Kinnick Stadium. Parking is available at the west Kinnick parking lot.
