Biography

Gerardo “Geo” Guerrero-Segura is an instructional track lecturer and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) student at the College of Nursing. In 2022, he will receive a DNP degree and PMHNP certificate. In 2020, he began instructing BSN students during their psychiatric-mental health practicum in the adult neuropsychiatry unit (2JPW) at UIHC. He received a BSN from the University of Iowa in May 2018 and worked in the behavioral health department at UIHC after graduation. He was a staff nurse in adult psychiatry where he provided care to patients with mood disorders, eating disorders, or emotional management concerns. He also has experience as a psychiatric resource nurse at UIHC where he circulated adult psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, and neuropsychiatry.

Geo is a member of the International Society of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurses and American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA). He has been selected as a 2021 student scholar by the APNA Board of Directors, making him one of only 30 undergraduate and graduate students selected to participate in the program—a true testament to his exceptional work.
