DNP Students Elected to Iowa APNA Chapter
Three students from the UI College of Nursing’s Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner/Doctor of Nursing Practice (PMHNP/DNP) program were recently elected to the Iowa Chapter of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA).
Specifically, Margaret Burchianti was elected president; David Hatfield was named chapter secretary; and Rebecca Devine will serve as member at large.
Psychiatric mental health nurses (PMHNs) work with individuals, families, groups, and communities, assessing their mental health needs. PMHNs diagnosis and implement a plan of care for their patients, and then evaluate that plan for effectiveness.
APNA is a professional association organized to advance the science and education of psychiatric mental health nursing. The association is committed to this specialty practice, health, wellness, and recovery promotion through identification of mental health issues, prevention of mental health problems and the care and treatment of persons with psychiatric disorder.
The Iowa Chapter was formally chartered in 1994. Since that time, the chapter has emerged as Iowa’s only formal professional organization for psychiatric nurses.
