Former Dean to be Honored at Leadership Conference
University of Iowa College of Nursing Dean Emeritus Geraldene Felton will be honored at this year’s History Makers Gala and Iowa African American Women's Leadership Conference: "I Am My Sister's Keeper."
Geraldene “Gerry” Felton was Dean at the College of Nursing from 1981 to 1997. As is stated in the book, One Hundred Years of Nursing at Iowa, Dean Felton focused her efforts on the development of promising young faculty, and on the recruitment of new faculty with solid research credentials who could be mentors for others.
In 1984, Gerry Felton established an Office for Nursing Research Development and Utilization to provide the infrastructure for faculty members. Faculty research and publication grew exponentially throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Her dedication and commitment to the College of Nursing, as well as the profession of nursing, earned her for the Myrtle K. Aydelotte Dean's Award in 2003.
Dr. Felton will be honored at the History Makers Gala, which takes place on Thursday, September 27, at the Scottish Rite Temple in Cedar Rapids. The conference is Friday, September 28, at the Cedar Rapids Marriott.
