March 2017

Colleagues,

As we start the month of March, I want to send you all greetings on behalf of the faculty, staff and students of the college! Although our fall was sad with the passing of two of our colleagues, the College of Nursing is moving forward. Interim Dean Thad Wilson and the executive leadership team are actively recruiting faculty members to address the educational and research needs of the college. These faculty recruits will also be filling the void of those faculty members who will be retiring within the next several months. Along with the recruitment of new faculty, a search committee appointed by Provost Barry Butler is actively narrowing the field to find a new, permanent dean to lead the college. I would also like to convey that Dr. Wilson will be leaving the UI at end of this spring semester. He has accepted the position of President of the Research College of Nursing in Kansas City (where his grandchildren live). We wish him the best and he assures us that he will forever be a Hawkeye!

For those of you graduating in 1967, 1972, 1977, 1982, and 1987, please note the reunion schedule on our website! The activities are open to all alumni who wish to return to campus! This year the University of Iowa Alumni Association will be honoring one of our own: Margaret "Peg" (O'Connor) Stessman ('84 BSN, '12 MBA). I hope you can join us!

My very best to all of you!

Liz Swanson (BSN '69, MA '75, PhD '85)
Associate Professor and Director, External Relations
