Research - Scholarly Interest Groups

The College of Nursing Scholarly Interest Groups (SIGs) are comprised of faculty, students and staff who meet monthly and share an interest in a specific area of research. Group meetings are facilitated by the Office for Nursing Research. Formats vary and include journal discussions, writing critique, and proposal development. All are welcome to attend. Descriptions of the SIGs and meeting times are included below:

Pain Journal Club

Facilitated by Barbara Rakel, this group meets on the 4th Monday of each month from 1:00 to 2:00 PM in 437 CNB.  Discussion is about current research and/or best practice articles on pain and its associated symptoms. For more information, please contact barbara-rakel@uiowa.edu.

Writing Group

Facilitated by Janet Williams, this group meets from 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM on the 4th Monday of each month.  Please contact janet-williams@uiowa.edu for more information.

Innovations SIG

Facilitated by Dr. M. Lindell Joseph, this group meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month from 9:00 to 10:00 AM in 437 CNB.  The group focuses on discussions to generate knowledge for innovativeness in practice and academia.  For more information, please contact maria-joseph@uiowa.edu.

  • Pain Interest Group

    Organized through the Pain T32 through the College of Medicine, this group discusses topic that are more heavily focused on basic science, but also include research on humans as well. The group will meet on Wednesdays from 9:00-10:00 AM in 2117 MERF on November 11, 2015, December 2, 2015, February 10, 2016, March 2, 2016, and March 9, 2016.

  • Work-in-Progress Group  This group meets on Fridays at 3:30 PM in Bowen Science Building, Gross Reading Room (2-322 BSB). Laboratories take turns presenting their work in progress. Presentations are scheduled for September 18, 2015, October 2, 2015, October 16, 2015, October 30, 2015, November 6, 2015, November 13, 2015, November 20, 2015, December 4, 2015, and December 18, 2015.
