Biography

Heather L. Bair, DNP, ARNP, CRNA, CHSE, FAANA is an Associate Clinical Professor and Associate Director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program in Anesthesia Nursing at the University of Iowa College of Nursing. She is committed to teaching and program leadership, with a primary focus on preparing anesthesia nursing students for safe, evidence-based, and patient-centered clinical practice. Her instructional approach emphasizes strong clinical reasoning, effective communication, and progressive skill development across the anesthesia curriculum. 

Professor Bair has extensive expertise in simulation-based education and curriculum design. She integrates high-fidelity simulation, standardized patients, and Simulation-Based Mastery Learning throughout anesthesia nursing education to support deliberate practice, objective assessment, and learner confidence. She is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) and regularly teaches and mentors faculty and clinicians in simulation design, debriefing, and assessment methods at local, national, and international levels. Her scholarly work focuses on educational innovation, simulation-based assessment, patient safety, and certification-related outcomes in anesthesia and nursing education. She has contributed to peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters and is actively engaged in national service related to certification, evaluation, and examination development for nurse anesthetists. Through her combined roles in teaching, scholarship, and service, Professor Bair advances excellence in anesthesia nursing education and professional practice.
