Amy Johnson, MSN, RN

Assistant Professor of Practice
Biography

As a dedicated nursing educator, I bring over a decade of diverse clinical and academic experience to my role as Assistant Professor of Practice at the University of Iowa College of Nursing. My professional journey has been shaped by a deep commitment to advancing nursing education, fostering student success, and promoting community health. I hold a Master of Science in Nursing Education from Walden University, building upon foundational degrees in nursing from Western Illinois University and Eastern Iowa Community College. My licensure as a Registered Nurse in Iowa since 2012 has supported a robust clinical career, including roles in pediatrics, obstetrics, school nursing, and health education. These experiences have enriched my teaching, allowing me to bridge theory and practice effectively for students across ADN and BSN programs. In my academic roles, I have served as a classroom instructor, lab facilitator, and clinical coordinator, consistently striving to create inclusive, evidence-based learning environments. I have taught a wide range of courses—from introductory health concepts to senior nursing internship—demonstrating versatility and a student-centered approach. Beyond academia, I am an active member of the Association of Community Health Nursing Educators, National Association of School Nurses and a committed community volunteer with the League of Latin American Citizens. These affiliations underscore my belief in the power of nursing to transform lives both within and beyond classroom settings. With a passion for mentorship, interdisciplinary collaboration, and lifelong learning, I continue to contribute meaningfully to the nursing profession and the communities I serve.
