The Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes a graduate who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and achievement in nursing, related fields, healthcare and or have made significant contributions to their community. The Distinguished Alumni award will be given to an individual who has graduated from the University of Iowa College of Nursing with a BSN or a graduate degree. The nomination packet is to include the online nomination form, the nominee’s resume/CV, and the nominator’s statement. The statement should be 1-2 pages in length documenting the criteria of the award category. Permission from the nominee is required for the nomination. 

Honorees are selected from submitted nominations and are reviewed based on the following criteria: 

  • Graduated from the BSN, MSN, DNP, or PhD program
  • Made sustained and exceptional contributions to nursing or related healthcare fields
  • Received recognition as an outstanding leader through professional and/or community achievements
  • Served as a role model for current and future nursing students
  • Demonstrated ideals that exemplify the College of Nursing’s seven pillars of diversity (awareness, integrity, caring, respect, learning, collaboration and cultural humility)
  • Demonstrated the importance of his/her education at the University of Iowa
  • Is available to speak at the BSN commencement on May 17, 2025
