Biography

Dr. Maria Lofgren is the director of faculty practice at the University of Iowa College of Nursing and director of advanced practice providers at UI Health Care. She is a visionary leader with years of experience spanning leadership, strategic planning, and establishing clinical practice models and partnerships for advanced registered nurse practitioners. In her role, she establishes relationships and partners with medical directors, human resource representatives, physician department chairs, organizational leaders, and community stakeholders to improve the integration of ARNPs across the healthcare continuum. She serves as the primary resource regarding scope of practice, utilization, and collaborative practice models, credentialing and privileging, competency, professional development, student placement, and compliance. She is dually certified as a pediatric and neonatal nurse practitioner having over 35 years of nursing experience in the Midwest and 23 of those years as a nurse practitioner. 

Dr. Lofgren serves as a consultant to the University of Iowa Health Care (UIHC) Department of Nursing, College of Nursing clinical faculty, a mentor for doctorate students, and policy and scope of practice expert to the Iowa Board of Nursing. She is a longstanding member of the practice collaboratory between the UIHC Department of Nursing and the CON, a key member of the Iowa Board of Nursing ARNP Advisory Board, and a member of the Clinical Insights leadership team for Vizient. She serves on multiple local, state, and national committees, and professional organizations related to ARNP practice
