Toni Tripp-Reimer

The University of Iowa College of Nursing regrets to announce the passing of Dr. Toni Tripp-Reimer. Renowned in the field of ethnogeriatrics, Dr. Tripp-Reimer was an award-winning scholar and a mentor to many.

Born in Ames, IA, Dr. Tripp-Reimer received her BSN from the University of Maryland and served in the US Army Nurse Corps for three years. She received her PhD in Anthropology from The Ohio State University in 1977 and began her career at the UI College of Nursing that same year. In addition to teaching, Dr. Tripp-Reimer served as director of the Office for Nursing Research Development and Utilization for 11 years, Associate Dean for Research for 14 years, and Senior Advisor to the Dean for seven years.

Combining her passions for both anthropology and nursing, Dr. Tripp-Reimer’s initial research focused on health care among various ethnic groups, and later focused on health care for gerontological populations. Along the way she was recognized with numerous state and national honors, including induction as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in 1987, State of Iowa Regents Award for Faculty Excellence in 1996, The Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing/MNRS Award for Leadership in Geriatric Nursing Research in 2002, The University of Iowa Hancher-Finkbine Medallion for Faculty Excellence in 2005, and the Midwest Nursing Research Society Lifetime Achievement Award, Midwest Nursing Research Society in 2007.
