College of Nursing

Dean Emeritus Geraldene Felton

has been selected to receive the University of Iowa’s 2019 Distinguished Alumni Award.

For nearly two decades (1981 to 1997), Dr. Felton served as Dean of the College of Nursing where she led, taught, and cared for countless faculty, students, and patients. Dr. Felton also spent a great deal of time and effort toward the development of promising young faculty, as well as the recruitment of new faculty with solid research credentials who could serve as mentors for junior faculty.

Since 1963, the university has annually recognized accomplished alumni and friends with Distinguished Alumni Awards, which are presented in seven categories: Achievement; Service; Hickerson Recognition; Faculty; Staff; Recent Graduate; and Friend of the University. The Awards Committee of UI’s Alumni Leadership Council selected Dr. Felton as the 2019 recipient for the Faculty category. This Distinguished Faculty Award is granted to retired or former UI faculty in recognition of significant achievement or specific meritorious service on behalf of the quality and advancement of the university.

Dr. Felton, who was also recently bestowed with a Hawkeye Distinguished Veterans Memorial Award, will be formally recognized at the Distinguished Alumni Awards Ceremony on Friday, October 18, 2019, in coordination with the university’s homecoming activities.
