Biography

Amalia Gedney-Lose, DNP, ARNP, FNP-C is a Clinical Associate Professor and Director of the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Program at the University of Iowa College of Nursing. She is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with clinical experience in primary care, family medicine, pre-operative evaluation, emergency care, and community-based practice. Dr. Gedney-Lose’s teaching and scholarly work center on competency-based education, evidence-based teaching, and instructional approaches that support the development of clinical reasoning in nurse practitioner students. She has been involved in curricular design and evaluation efforts in advanced pharmacotherapeutics and clinical education, with particular attention to backward design, specification grading, and transparent assessment practices. She contributes to national nursing education work through service with the American Association of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANP-CB) and the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF). Her scholarly contributions appear in peer-reviewed journals including Nurse Educator, Journal of Nursing Education, The Journal for Nurse Practitioners, and Western Journal of Nursing Research, and include work on teaching strategies, clinical education, and practice improvement. Dr. Gedney-Lose has received institutional and professional recognition for teaching and service. She is committed to mentoring students and faculty and to advancing thoughtful, learner-centered nurse practitioner education.
