University of Iowa College of Nursing PhD candidate Kristin Manges has been selected to receive the Joseph & Jean Buckwalter Grant from the Midwest Nursing Research Society (MNRS).

Professor Stephanie Gilbertson-White, PhD, APRN-BC, was recently awarded a Concept Grant from the Iowa Cancer Consortium (ICC). This funding will support her current research project, which is titled “Acceptability of Using Telehealth Technologies as part of Cancer Symptom Management Program in a Community Cancer Clinic.” 

When Kirstin Manges, RN, BSN, completes her PhD in 2017, her future employer will undoubtedly land a professional who is ready to hit the ground running. In fact, “running” is something Manges is accustomed to—packing as much as she can into her higher-learning experience ever since she entered UI’s College of Nursing through the BSN-PhD program track.

Professor Nancy Downing, PhD, RN, SANE-A, has a long-standing interest in genomics, including the analysis of how genetic pathways influence pathology and health. Her research focuses on improving quality of life for people affected by Huntington disease (HD) and other conditions with a major genetic contribution.

Several graduate and undergraduate students from UI’s College of Nursing have been selected to present their academic posters at the Midwest Nursing Research Society’s (MNRS) 39th Annual Research Conference this spring.

Representing the college’s graduate programs are two PhD students—Geri Kirkbride and Stephanie Edmond—and DNP student Kelley Blackburn (pictured).

Alyson Hanish is merely weeks away from successfully completing a monumental academic hat trick at the University of Iowa. 

Hanish, who grew up in Cedar Falls, Iowa, has already earned her BSN and MSN from UI’s  College of Nursing and will be defending her dissertation (late November) en route to graduating with her PhD in December 2014.

Lisa Shah, a PhD student in UI’s College of Nursing, was recently awarded a two-year F31 Predoctoral Fellowship from the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She will utilize this support to help complete her dissertation research on Family Communication of Genetic Risk for Cardiac Disease.
