group of students in india

Assistant Professor Stephanie Gilbertson-White, PhD, APRN-BC, has been selected to present during a WorldCanvass program that will be celebrating International Education Week. The program’s thematic focus will be “Educational Cross-fertilization: the Iowa/India Connection.”

Dr. Gilbertson-White will be discussing experiences from Trivandrum, India, where she taught a three-week India Winterim (IW) course titled “Hospice, Pain and Palliative Care” from late December 2017 to mid-January 2018. The course is co-taught and coordinated with Pallium India, a nongovernmental, nonprofit hospice organization that provides free medical care for many of India’s poorest citizens.

Since 2006, more than 1,000 University of Iowa students have participated in the innovative and home grown study abroad program, India Winterim. Students spend three weeks during the break between the fall and spring semesters in India enrolled in courses addressing topics like health care, sustainability, water resource management, architecture and urban planning, social work, and the arts.

WorldCanvass begins at 5:30 on November 13 at MERGE, 136 South Dubuque Street, with a pre-show reception from 5-5:30 p.m. The program is free and open to the public.
