David J. Skorton Staff Excellence Award: Angela Melsa Worrell, MSN, RN, clinical program coordinator
This University of Iowa Staff Council award is given to two individuals who have shown “exceptional imagination and dedication to improving the university community.” Angela has served as liaison between students, faculty, preceptors, and clinical organizations for ten years, supporting thousands of nursing students.
Faculty Communicating Ideas Award: Yamnia Cortés, PhD, MPH, RN, FAHA, FAAN, associate professor
Awarded by the University of Iowa Office of the Vice President for Research, the award recognizes individuals who excel in communicating their research and scholarship to the broader public through print and electronic media.
Hancher-Finkbine Medallion (alumni): Kathleen “Kitty” Buckwalter, PhD, RN, FAAN (71BSN, 76MAN), professor emerita
The Hancher-Finkbine Medallion, one of the University of Iowa’s most prestigious awards, offers an opportunity for members of the university community to recognize their peers for exemplary dedication in leadership, learning, and loyalty.
Outstanding Staff Award: Jennifer Jones, MHS-PH, Optimal Aging Initiative program coordinator, Barbara and Richard Csomay Center for Gerontological Excellence
This University of Iowa Staff Council award recognizes staff who have made outstanding contributions that significantly benefited or brought recognition to the university. Jones has enhanced the center’s outreach and visibility by building statewide relationships and increasing community engagement.
Regents Award for Faculty Excellence: Sandra Daack-Hirsch, PhD, RN, FAAN, professor and executive associate dean
This award is one of the university’s highest honors for faculty achievement. Recipients must have “a sustained record of excellence across the spectrum of faculty endeavors (teaching, scholarship, service) or such outstanding accomplishments in one or more of the areas as to justify their selection.”
