Maria (Lindell) Joseph

M. Lindell Joseph, PhD, RN, FAAN, FAONL, University of Iowa College of Nursing clinical professor, has been selected as the next editor-in-chief of Nurse Leader, the journal of the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL). She will begin the position in January 2025. 

Dr. Joseph joined the College of Nursing in 2011, and today directs the graduate Health Systems: Administration/ Executive Leadership program. She is a Fellow of both the AONL and the American Academy of Nursing and is a highly respected voice in the nursing leadership community. Dr. Joseph’s research and scholarship focus on leadership effectiveness, General Effectiveness Multilevel Theory for Shared Governance, innovativeness across practice and academia, professional identity in nursing, and leadership science.

According to their website, Nurse Leader is a bimonthly journal that “pulls together insights from a broad spectrum of successful management and leadership perspectives and tailors the information to the specific needs of nurses.” Dr. Joseph has been a member of the editorial board of Nurse Leader since 2019. She is a past AONL board member and current AONL Foundation board member.
