Juliana Souza-Talarico, PhD, RN, FAAN
Dr. Juliana Souza-Talarico is an internationally recognized nurse scientist advancing research at the intersection of stress, brain health, and dementia prevention. Her work explores how psychological, social, and environmental stressors influence cognitive aging and Alzheimer’s disease risk, integrating biomarkers, proteomics, and community-based interventions. With over 80 peer-reviewed publications and leadership roles in global initiatives, she is shaping evidence-based strategies to reduce dementia disparities among underserved and Indigenous populations.
At Iowa, Dr. Souza-Talarico directs innovative projects funded by the Alzheimer’s Association and the Csomay Center for Gerontology Excellence, including technology-enabled programs to reduce the risk of dementia and mobile health clinic models for underserved communities. She serves as Vice-Chair of the Health Policy Professional Interest Area for ISTAART from the Alzheimer's Association and as an Expert Panel member for the American Academy of Nursing, bridging research and policy to inform equitable brain health strategies worldwide.
A passionate mentor, Dr. Souza-Talarico trains future nurse leaders and interdisciplinary scholars through hands-on research experiences and community engagement. Her work has been featured in national media and recognized with honors such as Distinguished Scholar in Nursing and Fellowship in the American Academy of Nursing.
