Biography

Dr. Alaa Albashayreh is an Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa College of Nursing. His program of research focuses on developing and evaluating digital health and clinical decision support tools that use artificial intelligence and machine learning to analyze patients' electronic health records, particularly unstructured clinical notes. His work aims to transform routinely documented clinical information into actionable insights that support timely, complex decision‑making for patients, caregivers, and clinicians. A central focus of his research is identifying patients who may benefit from palliative and supportive care earlier in their illness trajectory, with the goal of advancing person‑centered, goal‑concordant care for individuals living with chronic, life-limiting conditions and their family members.
