Biography

Kimberly M. Bergen-Jackson is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Iowa College of Nursing. She holds a PhD, MSN, and BSN from the University of Iowa, is board certified in Gerontological Nursing, and is a licensed nursing home administrator. Her areas of expertise include older adults, long-term services and supports, nursing leadership, quality improvement, pain management, dementia care, chronic disease, and public health. Dr. Bergen-Jackson currently serves as Director of the Iowa Nursing Home Quality Coalition, where she leads statewide initiatives to improve care quality and outcomes in nursing homes. She is also a 2025–2026 Health and Aging Policy Fellow and American Political Science Association Congressional Fellow, working to inform and advance health policy that impacts aging populations. Her research interests focus on older adults, nursing administration and nursing home systems, quality improvement, pain, dementia, age-friendly health systems, and person-centered care. 

Dr. Bergen-Jackson is passionate about preparing nurses to lead and deliver high quality, evidence-based, and person-centered care. She incorporates real-world experiences and storytelling into her teaching to connect theory to practice and inspire future nursing leaders. Through her teaching, leadership, and policy work, Dr. Bergen-Jackson strives to improve the lives of older adults and strengthen the quality of care across the continuum of health services.
