Biography

Megan Hart-Fernandez has been an Associate Professor with the College of Nursing since January 2025. She obtained her graduate training through the University of Iowa College of Nursing, including her MSN (2011), DNP (2012) & post-doctoral PMHNP certificate (2020). Dr. Hart-Fernandez is a dual-board certified nurse practitioner (family practice and psychiatric mental health specialties) who provides holistic healthcare services to patients throughout the lifespan, with a passionate focus on serving those suffering from mental health distress, those with occupational injuries, the working well, & their communities. In 2020, Dr. Hart-Fernandez opened a free-standing clinical practice, where, in addition to individual patient care, she offers virtual live & in-person presentations & trainings on mental health & occupational health topics to large global audiences. Dr. Hart-Fernandez incorporates a variety of psychotherapy techniques in her courses to further enhance student learning, reduce feelings of anxiety, & help increase overall confidence in student learners. She has a passion for empowering others to continuously learn & evolve throughout the lifespan, academically, personally, & professionally.
