Biography

Holly Lear, PhD, MPH, RN, LNHA is an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing at the University of Iowa, recognized for her leadership in nursing education, public health, and aging services. With over 15 years of interdisciplinary experience, Dr. Lear has directed clinical operations across the full continuum of care in Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs), including skilled nursing, assisted living, independent living, and home health. Her research bridges global health and gerontology, focusing on nursing study abroad preparation, public health promotion, and innovations in long-term care. She has served as the U.S. site coordinator for international research collaborations and has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Lear is a frequent presenter at national conferences, where she shares insights on age-friendly post-acute care models, workforce sustainability, and quality improvement in nursing homes. A committed educator and mentor, Dr. Lear integrates global perspectives into nursing curricula and actively supports student development through experiential learning. She is deeply engaged in state and national organizations dedicated to dementia care, aging policy, and healthcare quality, and continues to advocate for evidence-based improvements in elder care systems.
