Biography

Dr. Boeun Kim’s research focuses on social determinants of health and health inequities among older adults. She joined the College of Nursing as an Assistant Professor in 2024. Dr. Kim earned an MPH in Epidemiology and a PhD in Nursing Science with a statistical concentration from the University of Washington, Seattle. She further honed her research expertise as a postdoctoral fellow at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore. Before pursuing her PhD, Dr. Kim worked as a registered nurse for six years in hemato-oncology and emergency care settings.

Dr. Kim’s long-term goal is to develop multi-level interventions to promote nutrition security and cognitive health outcomes among older adults experiencing financial strain. Her current research program investigates the role of food environments in the relationship between food insecurity and cognitive health outcomes, as well as the pathways linking these factors. Her approach leverages population-based datasets, longitudinal data analyses, and geographic information systems, with plans to integrate artificial intelligence tools to enhance her work.
