Biography

Nursing at the University of Iowa and co-senior advisor with Dr. O’Sullivan in the Simulation in Motion–Iowa (SIM-IA) program. Dr. Bunch has more than 30 years of nursing experience and earned her EMT certification at both the national and state levels in 2022 to better understand the role of EMS providers and their educational needs. She is an active Advisory Committee member and president of the International Society for Rapid Response Systems and a board member for Got Your Six Support Dogs. Dr. Bunch is also a sexual assault nurse examiner with the Johnson County Sexual Assault Response Team and serves as a first responder, training officer, and service director with the Oxford Fire Department. Dr. Bunch’s research and clinical interests focus on health systems and patient safety, particularly how healthcare clinicians work across pre-hospital and in-hospital settings to keep patients safe. She has a strong commitment to rural healthcare and interdisciplinary collaboration with emergency medical systems. 

Dr. Bunch has extensive experience teaching with simulation in undergraduate and graduate nursing programs, as well as through SIM-IA. She currently teaches leadership and professional engagement in the University of Iowa’s undergraduate nursing program and received the Collegiate Teaching Award in 2021. In that same year, Dr. O’Sullivan and Dr. Bunch received funding to develop SIM-IA’s mobile simulation program, expanding access to high-quality training for rural EMS providers and other critical healthcare professionals across Iowa.
