Biography

Dr. Halbmaier's interests relate to genetics, cardiology, and combining the two with cardiovascular genetics. She has taught genetics at the College of Nursing (CON) since 2016, at first to undergraduate students and then co-developed the genomics course for graduate students. She was a cardiac nurse, and after becoming a nurse practitioner, starting working at the University of Iowa Healthcare in 2018. She completed a year of an advanced practice provider (APP) cardiology residency then started managing patients in outpatient general cardiology, cardiovascular genetic, and infiltrative cardiomyopathy clinics. The cardiovascular genetic and infiltrative cardiomyopathy clinics have grown exceptionally, largely because of her contributions and time with patients. Much of her scholarship and teaching involves presenting her expertise and experiences in caring for patients with cardiovascular genetic conditions.
