Kyungmi Lee, PhD, RN, is an Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa College of Nursing. Her research develops technology-enabled approaches to support health and self-management among older adults living with chronic conditions and their family caregivers. Using smartphones and wearable sensors, she captures real-time, day-to-day changes in symptoms and behaviors through digital phenotyping, ecological momentary assessment, machine learning, and intensive longitudinal data analysis. 

Dr Lee's work spans chronic conditions including Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and cancer, with a particular focus on the caregiving relationship and the interconnected experiences of patients and their family caregivers. By examining everyday patterns and variability in symptoms, behaviors, and well-being, her research seeks to identify opportunities for more timely and personalized approaches to symptom management and self-management. Her long-term goal is to translate these digital insights into practical, scalable, home-based interventions that improve daily functioning, self-management, and caregiver well-being.
