Maria Lofgren, DNP, ARNP, NNP-BC, CPNP, FAANP
She is a board-certified neonatal nurse practitioner and primary care pediatric nurse practitioner, and a Clinical Professor. She developed a leadership infrastructure for Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners (ARNPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs) at UI Health Care. In her role she serves as the clearing house for all communication to understand organizational, state, and national issues pertinent to Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) at every level. Her work has led to the adoption of innovative practice models for APPs and she has partnered with vested organizations, state and national stakeholders to identify metrics for productivity, define top of license clinical practice and delineation of privileges for all ARNPs and PAs. She serves and functions as the resource regarding scope of practice, collaborative practice models, credentialing, privileging, and competency for ARNPs statewide in her role with the Iowa Board of Nursing. She has over 30 years of experience spanning leadership, strategic planning, and establishing relationships with multiple advanced practice leaders, boards of nursing leaders, professional organizations, HR representatives, physicians, and organizational leaders across the country to improve the integration of ARNPs and PAs across the health care continuum. She developed the curriculum and taught Clinical Practice Management and Leadership for APPs at the University of Iowa College of Nursing and has numerous publications and national presentations. She has received multiple awards for her advocacy and leadership surrounding APPs. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and has been named one of Iowa’s 100 Great Nurses.
