Biography

Dr. Joseph is Clinical Professor and Director of the DNP and MSN Health Systems: Administration/Executive Leadership programs. A nationally recognized leader in nursing administration, leadership, and systems science, she has dedicated her career to advancing health systems through innovation, governance, and the development of professional identity. She earned her PhD in Human Services from Capella University, focusing on innovativeness in nursing, and holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees in nursing and health care administration. 

Dr. Joseph is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and the American Organization for Nursing Leadership and serves as Editor-in-Chief of Nurse Leader. Her leadership roles include Chair of the Health Policy Advisory Council for the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, Chair of the Research Committee for the AONL Foundation, and Co-Founder and Chair of the National Consortium for Innovativeness in Health Care.

Dr. Joseph has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and co-edited the 7th and 8th editions of Leadership and Nursing Care Management. Her research, funded by the AONL Foundation and other organizations, focuses on care delivery models, nurse manager recognition, and leadership development—shaping national conversations on governance and nursing innovation. Committed to mentoring future and experienced leaders, she studies academic-practice partnership, innovativeness, and executive leadership practice to demonstrate workforce value and meaningful recognition. She serves on numerous boards and expert panels nationwide and is actively involved in the Catholic Church.
