Biography

Magdalena Gjeleva Hasley, MSN, RN, and a faculty member at the University of Iowa College of Nursing. She brings more than 15 years of nursing experience in both clinical practice and nursing education. Her clinical background includes perioperative nursing, anesthesia care, medical-surgical nursing, critical care, and school nursing. She has extensive operating room experience, specializing in cardiovascular, general, gynecologic, urologic, and endoscopic procedures, as well as preoperative and postoperative patient care.

Before joining the University of Iowa, she served as a clinical instructor at St. Ambrose University, where she taught health assessment and evidence-based practice. She also supported simulation education and helped develop applied learning experiences involving cardiac and trauma scenarios. In her teaching, she focuses on clinical judgment, patient safety, evidence-based care, and helping students connect classroom knowledge with real-life nursing practice.

She earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Chamberlain University and her Associate Degree in Nursing from Scott Community College. She began her nursing career in Macedonia, where she worked in medical-surgical nursing and cardiovascular anesthesia before continuing her professional journey in the United States.

She is passionate about creating a supportive and hands-on learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, practicing their skills, and building confidence. Her goal is to help students become knowledgeable, compassionate, and patient-centered nurses. She believes that meaningful progress happens one step at a time while working toward bigger goals.
