Biography

Dr. Michelle Gillitzer, DNP, APRN, AGPCNP-BC, serves as Director of the Adult-Gerontological Primary Care Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program and as a leadership team member through the Csomay Center for Gerontological Excellence at University of Iowa, College of Nursing. She has taught across undergraduate and graduate level programs, including the BSN, MSN–Entry into Practice, and DNP programs, fostering the development of compassionate, evidence-driven nurse leaders. 

Dr. Gillitzer’s clinical expertise centers on holistic nursing care and health promotion in aging populations. Through her academic and community endeavors, she integrates evidence-based strategies to enhance cognitive wellness, promote mental health, and improve quality of life among older adults. She is also a Dementia Champion through Dementia Friendly Iowa to advocate education and community transformation for individuals living with dementia and their caregivers. Through her teaching and mentorship, she fosters nursing leadership, patient-centered care, scholarship, and compassion in future Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioners.
