Biography

Jessica Ashlock is an Assistant Professor of Practice at the University of Iowa College of Nursing. Her teaching focuses on adult medical-surgical nursing, clinical/lab concepts, and simulation-based education. As a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator, she integrates innovative simulation strategies to enhance student preparedness for complex clinical situations. Ashlock has extensive experience in both academic and clinical settings, including teaching and ongoing practice as a staff nurse in cardiology and float pool at UI Health Care. She has earned multiple honors for her contributions to nursing education, including the Nursing Excellence in Clinical Education Award (2025) and the Teaching Excellence Award (2023). She is actively engaged in curriculum development and serves on key committees such as BSN Admissions and Curriculum Revision. In addition, she mentors faculty and students in medical-surgical practicum and supports initiatives to enhance clinical education through evidence-based teaching practices. Ashlock has participated in numerous professional development activities to advance nursing education and simulation pedagogy.
