At the beginning of every nurse’s career, there is often excitement and anticipation for the opportunities that will lie ahead. Some may see themselves working in a hospital setting, while others may be drawn to hospice, home health, long-term care, etc. What many nurses may not realize as they begin their journey through nursing school and into practice at the bedside is just how many different roles and opportunities their careers may hold.

Every nurse’s professional journey is shaped by opportunities to learn, grow, and become the nurse they aspire to be. During Nursing Professional Development Week, we celebrate the individuals who help to make those opportunities possible. Nursing Professional Development (NPD) practitioners can wear many hats, including educators, coaches, mentors, and leaders, to name a few. Without these individuals being willing to step into new opportunities and grow themselves, we wouldn’t have strong leaders leading the way. Through the guidance and support NPD practitioners provide, they help nurses build competence, confidence, and resilience throughout their careers.  

Behind every successful onboarding, residency program, and professional growth opportunity is an NPD practitioner helping nurses reach their full potential. Their work not only makes a direct impact on the nursing workforce but helps to improve patient outcomes and contributes to the organization's success.
