The College of Nursing Notable Preceptor Award recognizes exceptional preceptors who model and encourage critical thinking, compassion, curiosity, and motivation; who are knowledgeable; and who have a lasting impact on student learning. One undergraduate and one graduate preceptor are selected for the award each year.

2025-2026 Undergraduate Preceptor Award: Chad Seering, RN

Chad Seering is a staff nurse at the Otolaryngology Clinic at University of Iowa Health Care.

Four second semester BSN students who had Chad as their preceptor for their gerontological nursing practicum nominated him for the award.

One wrote, "Chad provided the best experience at this clinical site. He was an excellent teacher and consistently supportive throughout the semester. He set a great example through his positive interactions with patients, which made a strong impression on my own approach to care. I learned quickly under his guidance and always looked forward to Gero week because of the welcoming and engaging environment."

2025-2026 Graduate Preceptor Award: Denise Cundy, MSN, RN

Denise Cundy is executive vice president for quality and operations at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines.

Health Systems DNP student Jacque Hollingshead wrote in her nomination: "Denise exemplifies the very best of nursing executive leadership. … What sets Denise apart is her ability to inspire confidence and motivation in those she mentors. She encouraged me to think critically, ask thoughtful questions, and approach challenges with curiosity and purpose. Her example demonstrated how knowledgeable, values-driven leadership can have a powerful and lasting impact on both patient care and professional growth.

Denise's mentorship has influenced my confidence, my critical thinking, and my vision for my future in nursing leadership. I cannot imagine a more deserving recipient of this recognition."
