Biography

Dr. Dana L. Fowler, DNP, ARNP, AGACNP-BC, is an Associate Professor of Instruction at the University of Iowa College of Nursing and a seasoned Nurse Practitioner with over 22 years of experience specializing in pulmonary and critically ill patients. Her clinical background spans private practice, academic medical centers, and rural hospital settings. She currently serves as Director of a pioneering Nurse Practitioner-led Hospitalist Program at Washington County Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa. 

Dr. Fowler teaches in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program, focusing on clinical skill development for Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP) students. She is passionate about preparing the next generation of ACNPs to deliver high-quality care across the acute spectrum, especially in underserved rural communities. Her teaching emphasizes the nursing approach to advanced practice, promoting holistic, patient-centered care. 

Recognized among the “100 Great Iowa Nurses,” Dr. Fowler has presented nationally on rural acute care, chest X-ray interpretation, and transitions of care. She is a certified simulation instructor and actively contributes to professional organizations including NONPF, SCCM, and AANP. Through her leadership, scholarship, and service, Dr. Fowler continues to champion rural health and the advancement of the nursing profession.
