Stephanie Gilbertson White, PhD, RN, FAAN
Stephanie Gilbertson-White PhD, APRN, FAAN is an Associate Professor at the University of Iowa, in the College of Nursing, where she also directs the PhD Program. Additionally, she is a faculty member for the Palliative Medicine and Hospice Fellowship program at the University of Iowa and the Supportive Oncology Clinical Research Program Leader at the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center (HCCC) at the University of Iowa. Dr. Gilbertson-White completed her BSN and MSN at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She completed PhD education at the University of California, San Francisco School of Nursing focusing on cancer symptom science, followed by a T32 Post doctoral fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Nursing in cancer survivorship. Dr. Gilbertson-White was in the inaugural cohort of the Betty Irene Moore Fellowship for Nurse Leaders and Innovators. Dr. Gilbertson-White has received grants awards for her research from both federal and foundational funders.
Currently, her work focuses on managing physical and emotional symptoms associated with advanced cancer. She is interested in both 1) identifying patients most likely to develop distressing symptoms; and 2) developing innovative and clinical sustainable person-centered interventions for people to better self-manage their cancer symptoms ultimately decreasing symptom interference with life. Dr. Gilbertson-White is especially interested in using eHealth interventions to help patients living in rural areas. Most recently, her work has focused on testing a symptom self-management mobile application for people with cancer called OASIS and in using data mining approaches with EHR data to develop symptom development prediction models.
